Mabel S. Guttormson

Mabel Signora Ringstad was born February 6, 1913, to Carl and Natalia (Anderson) Ringstad in rural Argusville, ND. She grew up on a farm in rural Argusville and attended country school.
At the age of twenty, Mabel attended the Chicago Hairdressing College in Fargo, ND, and worked for four years as a hairdresser in Fargo. On October 20, 1937, she married Elmer Guttormson in Perley, MN, and they made their home in rural Georgetown, MN. From 1964 to 1974, Mabel owned and operated Mabel's Beauty Shop, which was located in her home.
Mabel moved into the Heritage Villa, Moorhead, MN, in 1996. On September 17, 1997, Elmer died. Mabel became a resident of Moorhead Healthcare Center in 2003, where she died on Thursday, September 9, 2004, at the age of ninety-one.
Mabel was an active member of the Kirkebo Ladies Aid. She loved rosemaling (which she learned when she was 72), playing cards, and completing crossword puzzles. She was also musically talented and taught herself to play the organ, piano, harmonica and accordian. Mabel enjoyed her family, particularly visits from her grandchildren.
She is survived by two sons, Ronald (LeeAnn), Borup, MN, Terry (Judy), Hendrum, MN; a daughter, Karen (Don) Dittberner, Elk River, MN; a daughter-in-law, Lois (Kenneth) Ziegler, Georgetown; a brother-in-law, Gilbert Guttormson, Georgetown; 12 grandchildren, Kellee (Dan) Johnk, Sabin, MN, Dean (Sue) Guttormson, Moorhead, Chad Guttormson (Vickie Vigesaa), Borup, Kari Jo (Chris) Borgmann, Detroit Lakes, MN, Pam (Sonny) Heille, Andover, MN, Lori (Chuck) Ziegler, Moorhead, Mike (Carrie) Guttormson, Fargo, Cindy (Kevin) Zahn, Menomenie, WI, Diana (Jim) Striegel, Brooklyn Park, MN, Alicia (Joe) Baraga, Shoreview, MN, Tony Guttormson and Jenna Guttormson, Hendrum, MN; 19 great-grandchildren, Karra, Kamron and Kadin Johnk, David Mathison and Kurt Guttormson, Shelbi Guttormson, Michaela and Aaron Heille, Erica and Bradley Ziegler, Alexis, Alison, and Anna Guttormson, Jake (Nikki) Striegel and Samantha Striegel, Randi, Alexandra, Toni and Samantha Baraga; and one great-great-grandson, Anthony J. Striegel. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Mabel was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Roger; four brothers; one sister; a son-in-law, Tony DeMario; two grandsons, Edward and Michael DeMario; and one great-granddaughter, Krista Johnk.
Mabel's children would like to acknowledge and thank all those who gave of themselves to help and care for Mabel. The staffs at Heritage Villa and Moorhead Healthcare, her hairdresser, her friends, and relatives. You were all very special to Mabel.
