Willie Mae Mayo was born August 24, 1916, in Preston, MS, to Alonzo and Jesse (McBrayer) Mayo. She was raised in Preston where she graduated from high school.
Mae moved to Detroit, MI, where she worked for Federal Department Store and Awrey's Bakery. It was there she met and fell in love with Robert J. Dew. They married April 22, 1944, in Detroit. Mae and Robert spent much time together at train shows, a hobby they both shared and enjoyed. They also enjoyed the company of their two children, Dale and Bob. Their marriage ended with the sad death of Robert on August 12, 1984.
Mae and her family moved to Dilworth, MN, in 1951, and to Moorhead, MN, in 1956. She worked at Hobby House in Moorhead, and later at Hobby Land/Northwest Ceramic Supply in Fargo. She retired in 1981.
Mae died Sunday, July 8, 2012, at Sanford Health Palliative Care Unit, Fargo, at ninety-five years of age.
Mae is survived by her two sons, Bob, Gainsville, GA, and Dale, Moorhead; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation for Mae will be Thursday from 5 - 7 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.
Her funeral will be Friday, July 13, 2012, at 11 AM, in Bethesda Lutheran Church, Moorhead.
Burial will follow in Moorhead Memorial Gardens.
