Magdalen T. Stricker

July 25, 1939 — June 2, 2007

Magdalen T. (Wald) Stricker, 93, passed away on June 2, 2007, under the compassionate and dignified care of Serenity Assisted Living in Dilworth, MN, which she considered not only her home but her family.

Magdalen was the daughter of Frank and Philomena Wald. She was born in Towner, ND, and raised in Karlsruh, ND. On July 25, 1939, she was united in marriage to Herman Stricker in Sisseton, SD. Following their marriage they made their home in Dilworth. In 1976, the couple moved to their lake home on Lake Ida.

Magdalen was preceeded in death by her husband Herman in 1987. She then moved back to the Dilworth area. During the past year she resided at Serenity Assisted Living. Magdalen loved her life at Serenity and found it to be her home. Magdalen enjoyed hobbies such as reading, spending time with her faith, spending time with her family and beating everyone in a game of cards. She was known as the Card Shark Lady, the best wicked and wildest card lady of the Red River Valley. She could win in any card game at any given time.

In addition to her husband, her parents; three brothers, Frank Wald, Jerome Wald and Herman Wald; and two sisters, Katherine Wald Johnson and Agatha (Aggie) Wald Bonawitz, preceded her in death.

Magdalen is survived by a son, Donald Wald, Phoenix, AZ; a daughter, Roxanne (Jerry) Barbee, Moorhead, MN; two grandsons, Forest Wald and Jerod Barbee; two granddaughters, BeLinda and Ashley Barbee; two great-grandchildren, Faith and Hope Wald; a brother, John Wald, OH; and three sisters, Carolyn Moser, Minot, ND, Marian Bridwell, Moorhead, and Gloria Taylor, AZ. She is also survived by the honorary ladies and gentlemen of Serenity.

All of you have been so kind at this difficult time. The family is so appreciative of the love you accorded to us and to Magdalen in her lifetime. Your support is a source of comfort to us. Your friendship to Magdalen in her lifetime was a source of joy

Visitation: Tuesday from 5 - 7 PM with a prayer service at 7 PM, in St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Dilworth.


Funeral Mass: Wednesday, June 6, 2007, at 11 AM, in St. Elizabeth Catholic Church.


Burial: St. Mary's of the Lake Catholic Cemetery, rural Detroit Lakes, MN.
