Marcus Walter (Red) Kmoch passed away at age 85 on Wednesday, December 30, 2009, at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo, North Dakota. He was born September 5, 1924, on the family farm near Dent, Minnesota, the oldest of three children born to August and Bertha (Noess) Kmoch.
Marcus graduated high school in Perham, Minnesota, in 1942 and farmed with his father for two years following graduation. He enlisted in the US Navy in November 1944 and served aboard the USS Young as a motor machinist during WWII. He was honorably discharged in 1946 and began his civilian employment as a journeyman electrician at Valley Service in Moorhead, MN. In April 1949 he became one of the founders and owners of Edling Electric in Moorhead where he worked for the next 38 years.
He married Frances McKinnon on June 21, 1952, in Fargo and they were blessed with two children, Sharon and David, before Frances' death in August 1954. With the help of his sister, Esther Morris, aunt, Helen Noess, and numerous family and church friends, he raised his children until he married Evelyn Pfefferkorn on July 25, 1959, in Moorhead, and they were blessed with a son, Steven.
Marcus retired from Edling Electric in 1987 and he and Evelyn spent their early retirement years volunteering with the Laborers for Christ organization; working on construction projects in Texas, Arizona, Utah, California, Michigan, and Minnesota. After retirement, they sold their home in Moorhead and moved into their much-loved lake home on Lake Lida near Vergas, MN. In 2006, Marcus and Evelyn returned to Moorhead, moving into the Eventide Retirement community.
Marcus is remembered by his family as a devoted Christian, dedicated church member, and loving caregiver to his wife, Evelyn.
