Margaret D. Lindquist died July 31, 2008, after a short illness. Born on October 19, 1921, in Orland, California, she was the youngest of five girls born to John and Eleen Kalson. Her father was an evangelist and minister.
Margaret married Franklin D. Lindquist in 1944, while he was serving in the army during WW 2. For 20 years they served as career missionaries to the Belgian Congo (later Democratic Republic of Congo). There Margaret was involved in women's and children's ministries teaching sewing, reading and Bible classes. She is remembered as being a wonderful hostess to the missionaries and to the people of Congo. She loved and was loved by the Congolese, who gave her the name Nyasikara, which means "greatly loved one" and "kindness" in the Mbanza language. She had the joy of seeing one of her Sunday school students, Luyada Gbuda, grow in the grace of God to become the President of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Congo.
Returning in 1969 from Africa, the family lived in Rockford, IL, until 1993. She loved sharing her faith through the Evangelism Explosion program. Margaret and Franklin moved to Edina, MN, and lived there for ten years, and lived in Fargo, ND, for the last few years.
Gifted in many ways, Margaret enjoyed painting, photography, music, speaking, reading, cooking, writing poetry, and rejoiced in God's creation in the out-of-doors. She was so greatly loved by her family.
A loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Margaret is survived by her husband, Franklin; children, Tom (Joan), of Redmond, WA, Kurt (Linda), of Fargo, Franklin II "Lindy" of Chicago, IL, and Sheri (Roger) Whitfield, of St. Louis, MO; eight grandchildren, Jennifer, Timothy, Peter, Andrew, Jonathan, Daniel, Linden, and Nathaniel; 2 great-grandchildren, William and Eva; and also her sister, Elinor Bergen. She is also survived by many missionary "brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews."
She loved the Lord Jesus Christ and is now with Him in heaven. Memorials may be made to Congolese Widows and Orphans Project. This project is special to her as it is administered by Charlotte Gwa, the daughter of a dear African friend. The address is N
