Margaret J. Holm

Margaret J. Holm, 90, of Moorhead, MN, died Tuesday, July 29, 2014, in Eventide on Eighth in Moorhead.

Margaret Josephine Dempsey was born May 31, 1924, the daughter of Joseph C. and Selma Augusta "Gussie" (Stigen) Dempsey, in Halstad, MN. She grew up in Caledonia, ND, where she attended the local school. As a young lady, Margaret worked at the local grocery store and then went to work in Halstad at the local restaurant.

She met Kenneth E. Holm at a dance in Ada, MN, and they were married on December 17, 1942, in Halstad. They made their home in Shelley, MN, until moving to Moorhead. Margaret volunteered at St. Ansgar's Hospital in Moorhead and later went to work for Hornbacher's for several years until she retired. She was then asked to return to Hornbacher's where she worked for a few more years. Mr. Holm died November 11, 1977, and she continued to make her home in Moorhead.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, and a former member of Bethesda Lutheran Church, both of Moorhead.

Margaret's greatest joy in her life was her family, she said so many times how she was blessed with "four wonderful sons", who she cherished with all her heart. She enjoyed canning, cooking and baking, and her sugar cookies were always the best. When she got the chance, she liked to play cards, travel, play bingo and catch an episode of "Cops" on TV. Margaret also loved to dance and was always proud to share a dance with her sons.

One of Margaret's greatest gifts was her loving and caring way for others; she had a great compassion for people and was always aware of the needs of others and never failed to follow through in caring for them.

Margaret is survived by her sons, Dennis (Pam) Holm, Moorhead, Keith (Suzanne) Holm, Fargo, Michael (DeAnn) Holm, Moorhead, and Mark (Pam) Holm, Moorhead; grandchildren, Jason Savre, Brian (Nachelle Johnson) Savre, Heidi Savre, Stephanie (Lance) Strum, Justin (Pam) Holm, Damon (Janice) Holm, Brady (Leslie) Holm, Megan Sabby, Riley Sabby, Lindsay Holm and Jace Holm; great-grandchildren, Morgan Savre, Taryn Savre, Lawson, Leif and Sandra Strum, Kyja, Noela and Elya Holm, and Bennett Holm; and her very special and dear friend, Lawrence "Larry" Nosbusch.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Gussie Holm; stepfather, Victor Holm; husband, Kenneth; sisters, Winona Bingham, Lenora Stigen, Marie Howland, and Lamona Blaze; and brother, Walter Stigen.
