Margaret S. Bjornson was born March 20, 1934, in Grafton, ND, to Thorlakur V. and Elin (Melsted) Bjornson. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Her early childhood was spent in Mountain, ND, Clearfield, UT, and Valley City, ND. Margaret graduated from Valley City High School and Valley City State University.

After her marriage to Willerd Blumhardt, they moved to Grand Forks, ND, where her daughters were born. Margaret taught in the public schools in Thompson, ND, and also in Grand Forks. They lived a short while in Northfield, MN, and Rochester, MN, before moving to the Chicago, IL, area. Margaret was employed by the Wells Lamont Corp. for over 25 years as an accountant and also served in a supervisory capacity over various departments.
