Marguerite "Margaret" Dutton, 100, died Tuesday in her home, surrounded by her loved ones, and under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Margaret was born on November 9, 1902, to Charles and Margretha Nel (Miller) Romkey, in Stockwood, MN. She attended country school there until she entered high school in Glyndon, MN. In 1920, she moved with her family to Moorhead where she graduated from Moorhead High School in 1921. She then entered Moorhead State Teachers College. She worked for Northwestern Bell Company until retiring in 1936 to raise her family. On July 15, 1933, Margaret married Waldemar Heglie. They made their home in the Fargo-Moorhead area where they raised their two children. On April 24, 1949, she married I.L. "Ike" Dutton in Moorhead.
Margaret was a dedicated Jehovah's Witness and an active member in her congregation. She loved to talk to people about the Bible, especially her hope for the future recorded in Revelation 21: 3,4. She possessed an abundant love for life, which showed in her relationship with her family and friends. Despite her age, she was very active, always enjoying being "out and about"
She is survived by her son, Burnel (Sharon) Heglie, Moorhead; her daughter, Marguerite Detmers, Moorhead; six grandchildren, Sherri Wahl, Janelle (Robert) Frizzell, Joni (Rodger) Edwards, Mark (Shelly) Heglie, Jeanine (Mario) Campos, and Lisa (Lari) Sylvia; thirteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ike; her father and mother; a brother, H.C. "Bud" Romkey; and a sister, Gladys Romkey.
