Marguerite M. Mowry, 86, Fargo, ND, died Thursday, June 10, 2010, in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo.
Marguerite Marie Happ, the daughter of William and Cecilia (Biermeier) Happ was born in Wonewoc, Wisconsin, on February 21, 1924. The family moved to North Dakota and Marguerite grew up and received her education in Edgeley, Jamestown, and Bismarck, where she graduated from St. Mary's Catholic High School, in 1941. She worked for a number of businesses in Bismarck, Fargo, and in Jamestown, prior to starting her own store in Jamestown.
For Marguerite, the store was her life. While it started in 1961, as record store in Jamestown, the business took off as a musical instrument store under the name of "Marguerite's Music". In 1975, Marguerite and her family expanded the store with a second location in Moorhead, MN. That location soon was doing most of the business, so the family closed the store in Jamestown, moved to Moorhead, and devoted their efforts to continue the growth and success of the Moorhead store.
Marguerite and Marguerite's Music grew to have a highly respected reputation locally, nationally, and internationally. Her work was her life and her devotion to her customers was legendary. Many customers became like family to her. In her free time she spent time attending to her flowers.
Poor health finally forced her retirement in 2004. She moved from her home in Moorhead to The Waterford in Fargo, and later to Bethany Towers, also Fargo, where she had lived since.
Marguerite is survived by two children, Donald (Judi) Mowry, Sedona, AZ, and Lynda (Preston) Smith, Moorhead; grandchildren, Steve (Jean) Mowry, Paula Mowry, and Travis Smith; great-grandchildren, Drew Carmichael and Jacob Mowry; brothers, William Happ an
