Marianne Hagen, 93, Moorhead, MN, died Thursday, January 24, 2013, at Eventide Lutheran Home, Moorhead, MN.
Marianne was born June 13, 1919 in Devils Lake, ND, to Ned and Anna Atherton. Her father, Ned, died when Marianne was very young. She was raised by her mother and by her uncle, Cassius, in the Devils Lake area where she attended school and helped out on the farm.
Marianne moved to Fargo, ND to attend Dakota Business College where she received a secretarial degree. After graduating, Marianne was employed by Great Northern Railway before returning to Devils Lake, ND, where she met the love of her life, Ingvald Hagen.
On October 7, 1951, Marianne married Ingvald Hagen in Moorhead. They made their first home in Devils Lake before moving to Moorhead. Marianne dedicated herself to taking care of her family. Later she worked part time for the Moorhead School District as a nurse's secretary at North Junior High, Moorhead.
Marianne was a devoted wife and mother. While Ingvald was working long hours to provide for his family, she was working long hours on the home front. She enjoyed baking, sewing, crocheting, listening to music, and traveling in the RV with her husband, Ingvald. Marianne loved getting together with her friends and always had coffee on and a tray full of baked goods.
Marianne was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd and Good Sam RV Club.
Marianne is survived by three daughters, Cheri Hagen, Moorhead, Nancy Staiger, Moorhead, and Janet Hagen, Narragansett, RI; a brother, Donald Atherton, Moorhead; a sister-in-law, Agnes Toso, Devils Lake; nine grandchildren, Jessamyn (Chris) Foley, Carina
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ingvald; her parents; a son-in-law, Doug Staiger; one sister, Ruth Hock, and one brother, Paul Atherton.
Visitation: Tuesday,5 PM to 7 PM with a prayer service at 7 PM, Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead. Funeral: Wednesday, January 30, 2013, at 2 PM, Bottolfson Chapel, Eventide Lutheran Home, Moorhead
