Marilyn Ellingson

Mrs. Marilyn Ellingson, 76, died Sunday, March 7, 2010, in Rosewood on Broadway, Fargo, ND.


Marilyn Leilani Anderson was born April 30, 1933 on the island of Kauai, Hawaii, the daughter of Theodore and Eleanor (Blake) Anderson. She grew up and received her education on Kauai and graduated from Kamehameha Schools in Honolulu, Hawaii in 1951. She attended college at Bob Jones University in South Carolina, graduating in 1955.


Shortly after graduation, Marilyn married Walter Savage Jr. They moved to Dallas, TX. Walter died in a construction accident 4 months after they were married, and Marilyn returned to Hawaii.


Marilyn was united in marriage to Donald Ellingson at Lihue, Hawaii, on December 22, 1963. They made their home in Fargo, and later in Moorhead, MN. Marilyn taught school at Agassiz Junior High School in Fargo. In 1965, the family moved to Mogadishu, Somalia, where they lived and taught in an American school for 3 years.


In 1968, they moved to Duluth, MN, and in 1970, returned to Moorhead. Marilyn taught at St. Joseph's Catholic School, and owned and operated her own floral business, "The Flower Basket". In 1982, she became a teacher at Park Christian School, where she taught until she retired in 1995.


Marilyn is survived by her husband, Don, Moorhead; son, Walter (Cathy) Ellingson, Hampton Cove, AL; daughter, Lisa (Tino) Simon, Fargo; sister, Rowena (Jack) Cobb, Koloa, HI; six grandchildren, Geneva Ellingson, Ruston, LA; Valerie (Josh) Wort, Kailua, HI
Visitation: Wednesday, 4 PM to 7 PM, with a Prayer Service at 6:30 PM,
Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead, MN.


Funeral service: Thursday, March 11, 2010 at 3 PM,
Bethel Evangelical Free Church, Fargo, ND.
