Marilyn Anne Marquardt passed away February 10, 2023, at the age of 93, in Moorhead, MN, where she resided during the last two and a half years of her life.
Marilyn was born January 29, 1930, on the family farm in the township of Frog Creek, WI, to Herman and Tilla (Hjersjo) Marquardt. Marilyn started school in Chittamo, WI, in 1935, followed by grade school years attendance in Minong and Lampson, WI. Marilyn attended Spooner WI, high school, graduating in 1947 at the age of 17.
In November 1947, Marilyn moved to Minneapolis, MN, and worked at Sears & Roebuck for the Christmas holiday season. Marilyn next found employment at Investors Diversified Services where she worked for three years. In April of 1951, Marilyn began working for General Electric (GE). Marilyn spent 39 years working in GE offices in Minneapolis, MN (29 yrs.) and Milwaukee, WI (10 yrs.). Over the years, Marilyn worked in multiple roles, with her last role as Supervisor, Facilities and Administration, in the GE Brookfield, WI, office. Marilyn was proud of her career at GE. In 1990, Marilyn retired and moved to Maryville, TN, to be closer to family and enjoy warmer year-round weather.
Beyond work, Marilyn loved traveling to spend time with family and friends, meeting new people, reading, playing cards, bingo, spending time around animals, and listening to many genres of music. In retirement, Marilyn belonged to the GE Quarter Century Club, and she volunteered at The Community Food Connection in Alcoa, TN, and for the Ladies Auxiliary for the Williams-Hansen Home for Boys, Knoxville TN. Marilyn also enjoyed regularly attending church services and activities with family at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and she attended Baptist services with friends at Lone Oak and Harmony Baptist Churches, in Maryville, TN.
Marilyn is survived by brother-in-law, Ret. Col. Robert “Bob” Block (Maryville, TN), many nephews\nieces, extended family, and friends. Preceding Marilyn in death are her parents, Herman and Tilla Marquardt; brothers and wives, Loyd (Marie) Marquardt (Chicago IL), Harald (Shirley) Marquardt (Moorhead, MN), Leon (Josephine) Marquardt (Omaha, NE), and Charles (Bonnie\Lois) Marquardt (Maryville, TN); sisters, Delores Block (Maryville, TN), baby (Tilla) Marquardt (Frog Creek, WI); and nephews, Robert (Bobby) Marquardt (Haynes, ND) and Martin (Marty) Marquardt (Haynes, ND).
Marilyn will be laid to rest next to her parents and sister (Tilla) in a private ceremony on June 8, 2023, in Minong, WI.
