Marilyn Mattson

April 5, 1933 — June 10, 2022

Marilyn Lou (Anderson) Mattson passed away peacefully on June 10, 2022, at Eventide in Moorhead, MN. She was content in her final years, as she was well cared for by compassionate staff.

Marilyn was born April 5, 1933, to Frank and Clara Anderson. Marilyn grew up in Walsh County and married Carl John “Jack” Mattson, Jr on October 7, 1951. They raised six children in Grand Forks ND, Park River, ND, Hillsboro, ND, Sheyenne, ND, Brocket, ND, Rothsay, MN, and Eldred, MN.

Marilyn was an avid bridge, pinochle, and scrabble player. She was a wonderful cook and baker. Her special talents were making oatmeal bread, donuts and lefsa. She worked at Shirley’s Café in Rothsay, MN. She was active in her church, enjoyed gardening, golf, taking trips on their motorcycle and watching sports. After Jack retired, they moved from Crookston to Moorhead, MN.

Marilyn is survived by daughters, Sue and husband Gary Buesgens of Prior Lake, MN, Barb and husband Bob Swehla of Stevensville, MT, Marj and husband Ron Amundson of Rothsay, MN; sons,
Rick of Lincoln, NE, Randy and wife, Rose of Victoria, MN, and Bill and wife Jackie of Lake Park, MN. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

Marilyn was preceded in death by Jack, her husband of 66 years; parents; sister, Verna Duray; brothers, Butch, Lyle, Eldon and Earl Anderson; grandson-in-law, Bricker Bergeson; and great-grandchildren Gideon and Gabriel Carpenter.

Marilyn’s sassiness and sense of humor will be greatly missed by family and friends.

A private family service will be held.
