Marilyn (Mead) Rude passed away peacefully of natural causes, on August 30, 2023, with her husband, Iver Rude, by her side. She was 92 1/2.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm, Monday September 25, 2023, with a visitation one hour prior, in Korsmo Funeral and Cremation Service, 409 S 8th St, Moorhead, MN. The memorial service will be livestreamed and can be viewed here on Marilyn's obituary page.
Marilyn was born on January 7, 1931, in Hutchinson, MN, to Esther and Winfield Mead. Six months later her older sister, Juanita (age six), died. Her brother Robert was born three years later. Tragedy struck again four years later when her mother died in December of 1935. Marilyn and her brother moved off the farm when their dad found it difficult to farm and raise two young children. Times were tough and their dad sent Marilyn and Robert to live with relatives, and eventually, an orphanage. Their dad found a better solution and Marilyn and Robert found a home with Mrs. Helen Oswald. She gave them a wonderful place to live until their dad married Jean Wightman, in 1941. In 1942, her sister Mary Sue was born, and sister Barbara was born, in 1946.
Marilyn graduated from Hopkins High School in 1948. She married Bruce MacQueen on December 26, 1949. Together they had 5 children, Vicki, Jeff, Susan, Kim, and Steve. She was a strong-willed lady that worked very hard to provide a stable home for her kids. She was a loving mom to her kids, but on occasion she would have to be tough and give them "love taps", a term she borrowed from Mrs. Oswald. She divorced in 1974.
The best thing that happened to her was meeting and marrying Iver Rude. They wed on August 21, 1982. Marilyn gained three more children, Sheri, Cindy, and Bryan. She loved them and they loved her. Iver and Marilyn had a great marriage and a lot of fun over 41 years. They lived in Halstad, MN, Sun Lakes, AZ, Red Wing, MN, and now Moorhead. They loved to travel, golf, play cards, bowl and have great times with friends and family. This hard-working lady was very organized. Marilyn made the best chocolate chip cookies...but you could only have two. She loved baking, crafts, sewing, puzzles, butterflies, and the color blue.
Marilyn will be sadly missed by her husband of 41 years, Iver Rude; her children, Vicki (Mike) Coleman, Jeff (Brick) MacQueen, Susan (Carey ) Bohn, Kim (Doyle) Rose, Steve MacQueen, Sheri (Del) Ketterl, Cindy Rude and Bryan Rude. She loved her grandchildren, Sean (Missy Hunt) MacQueen, Katie (Casey) Rogstad, Bri (Dustin) Leigh, Kelsey (soon to be Mrs. Andrew Droen) MacQueen, Eddie (Kylie) Bohn, Casey (Chelsea) Bohn, Max (Gabby) Rose, Josh (Phebbie) Rose, Jeremy Nelson, Ryan Nelson, Andy (Brittany) Nelson, Becca (Micah) Dralle, Bobby Rude, Zach Rude, Eric Rude, and Charlie (Lily) Rude; brother, Robert (Betty) Mead; and their children; and sisters, Mary Sue Lehan and her children, and Barb (Dick) Schaaf and their children. Marilyn is also survived by 23 great-grandchildren.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, Esther and Winfield Mead; stepmother, Jean Mead; and sister, Juanita.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Ethos Home Care and Hospice, 3361 45th St S Suite 100, Fargo, ND 58104. Marilyn's family thanks the Ethos people for making her comfortable and at peace to the end.
