Marion DeJong

Marion DeJong, 90, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, August 1, 2020, in Bethany Homes on University Drive in Fargo, ND.
Marion was born February 4, 1930, in Prinsburg, MN to Garritt and Mary (Breems) Ledeboer. As a young child she moved with her family to Moorhead, MN, where she became a lifelong resident who made many lifelong friends. She was married to Donald DeJong on January 17, 1947, and were married 73 years, until Donald's passing on May 12, 2020.
Marion loved her family and enjoyed hosting large gatherings of her siblings, her children and their families at her home and lake cabin. Along with her husband, she enjoyed cruises and travelling throughout the United States, and many parts of Europe. She had a love of reading, appreciated sunsets, and enjoyed crossword and other puzzles. A forty-year cancer survivor herself, Marion volunteered for support groups and breast cancer awareness initiatives.
Coming from and having a large family herself, Marion was blessed with numerous lifelong friendships and loved to keep in touch with everyone. She will be greatly missed by all.
Marion is survived by her five children, Donald K. DeJong, Moorhead, MN, Lynn Diane Olson, Frazee, MN, Mary Jeanne Skarnes, Maple Grove, MN, Cheryl Rae Brendemuhl, Gainesville, FL, and Douglas James DeJong, Vancouver, WA, as well as her sisters, Theresa Samuels, Moorhead, MN, Dorothy Taft, California, Linda Winn, California, and brother, Leroy Ledeboer, Moses Lake, WA. She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her devoted husband Donald DeJong; her parents, Garritt and Mary Ledeboer; brothers, Garrett, Allen, and Marty; as well as Evelyn DeJong, Myrna Taft, and Joyce Johnson.
Marion and Donald were long-time committed members of the First Presbyterian Church of Moorhead, where a celebration of life service will be held at 11 AM, on Friday, August 7, 2020.
