The Minnesota Twins lost one of their most devoted fans when Marjorie Sheppard, 88, Arlington, Texas, formerly of Moorhead, MN, died Friday, May 29, 2009, in Arlington.
Marjorie Elizabeth Malakowski was born February 22, 1921, in Crookston, Minnesota, the fourth of five children born to Frank and Elizabeth (Wilkens) Malakowski. She attended school in Lockhart, MN, and later Ada (MN) High School.
On March 1, 1942, she married William Howard "Bud" Sheppard at Lockhart. They farmed and raised their two daughters in the Ada-Lockhart area until September 1966, when they moved to Moorhead. Marjorie was employed at Minnesota State University, Moorhead for 21 years until her retirement. Her husband, Bud, passed away Oct. 13, 1981.
She was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church. She loved cooking, baking, decorating cakes, entertaining, rose gardening, spoiling her dog, and watching her much-loved Minnesota Twins. In 2004, the Twins honored her by putting her name on the Jumbotron with the inscription, "Marjorie Sheppard - One life-long Twins fan." In addition, Marjorie was a member of the Royal Neighbors of America, the VFW Auxiliary, and the Happy Hour Club in Moorhead.
In 2002, Marjorie moved to Arlington, Texas. Due to adverse health, Marjorie became a resident of Town Hall Estates nursing home in Arlington in September 2003.
