Mark Dunnell Moore Jr. was born October 21, 1918, in Owatonna, MN, to Mark and Madeline (Swartwood) Moore. Mark was raised in Waseca, MN, where he graduated from high school. He graduated from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, with a degree in journalism.
Mark enlisted in the US Army, at Fort Snelling, MN, in April of 1941. He served in the 3rd Infantry Artillery Unit and was discharged, at the rank of First Lieutenant, in September of 1945, at Fort Riley, KS. During his military service, Mark was stationed in Alaska, Sicily and Italy.
Mark was united in marriage to Mary Rose Scherling on November 10, 1948, at Fargo, ND, and they made their home in St. Paul, MN. Mark worked at a number of different jobs over the years in retail and wholesale hardware. They returned to live in Fargo in the 1960s.
Mark worked at Dakota Hardware as well as Archies in Moorhead. Many people will remember Mark for his friendly smile and familiar wave as they drove across the toll-bridge crossing the Red River. Mark worked for the Bridge Company for sixteen years.
Mark was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon and the American Legion. He and Mary were active members of Salem Evangelical Free Church, Fargo, for many years.
Mary preceded Mark in death on June 29, 2009, and Mark continued to make his home in Moorhead. He entered Elim Rehab and Care Center, Fargo, in June of this year, where he died Wednesday, October 26, 2011, at ninety-three years of age.
Mark is lovingly survived by his four children, Barbara Moore, Long Beach, CA, Holly Moore, Sierra Madre, CA, Terry Moore, Phoenix, AZ, and Mark Moore III, Long Beach; and three grandchildren, Daniel Ellingson, Irvine, CA, Philip Ellingson, Anaheim, CA, and Joshua Moore, Lake Forest, CA.
In addition to his parents and wife, Mark was preceded in death by a brother, Henry "Hank" Moore.
Visitation for Mark will be Monday, October 31, 2011, from 9:30 AM to 11 AM, in Salem Evangelical Free Church, Fargo.
His funeral will be at the church Monday at 11 AM.
Burial, with full military honors, will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Sabin.
