Mark Victor Young, 74, of Moorhead, MN, went to be with his Lord on March 24, 2023. Suddenly and unexpectedly, but able to be in the presence of those who loved him dearly and whom he loved very dearly and well, Mark entered with quiet peace into the presence of the One who loves him with a perfect love. He was a faith-filled and faithful husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, who was also a mentor of many, an amateur photographer of every family and social club gathering, and an inveterate gearhead whose tinkering and repairing and all-around restoring of things into wonderful treasures included old cars, wood boats, and even go-carts. He was active in both church and community, consistently generous, and constitutionally unable to do anything halfway.
Mark was born June 19, 1948, in Chelsea, MA. He grew up in Breckenridge, MN, the son of Melvin and Elnor Young, and the younger brother of Susan. His family was active at the First Baptist Church, and he grew to trust in and love the Lord Jesus from a young age. After graduating from Breckenridge High School in 1966, Mark enrolled at the University of Minnesota Duluth, where he met Barb Pistel, whom he married on January 11, 1969. Following his time at UMD, he enlisted with the US Coastguard. He served for four and a half years, being stationed in New York and Maine. Following his service, Mark and Barb moved to Grand Rapids, MI, where Mark took courses at Bible college. Eventually he returned to Breckenridge before moving to Moorhead in the early 80s. In 1987, he founded Financial Strategies in Fargo, ND.
In addition to his professional labors in the financial world, Mark also was active in various area churches, serving as an Elder most recently at Red River Church. He was a board member (and two-time President of the board) of Camp Lebanon in Burtrum, MN. He was deeply involved in the Willys Overland Knight Registry, serving as President for five years.
Mark was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by wife, Barbara of Moorhead; daughter, Katie (Pete) Aasness of Fergus Falls, MN; son, Mike (Sue) Young of Reile’s Acres, ND; son, Matt (Krista) Young of Hugo, MN; daughter, Jen (Dan) Brendsel of Hinckley, MN; grandchildren, Connor and Megan (Nathan); Mitch, Liz, and Nathan; Maddox, Emerson, and Deacon; John, Anna, Elinor, and Evangeline; great-granddaughter, Avery; and sister, Susan Humphrey of Rock Hill, NC.
Visitation will be Thursday, March 30, 2023, from 4–6 pm, at Korsmo Funeral and Cremation Service, Moorhead. Funeral will be Friday, March 31, 2023, at 10 am, at Red River Church, West Fargo, ND.
