Marlis Ann (Fahrlander) Ziegler was born on January 23,1940, to Henry and Anna (Menholt) in Ada MN. She passed away Sunday June 19, 2022 in her home surrounded by her family.
Marlis was confirmed by Rev. Hanneman in June of 1959. She was united in marriage to William Ziegler November 7, 1959, in Our Redeemer Lutheran Church Moorhead, MN.
Marlis attended school in St. Josephs, St Francis de Sales in Moorhead, Fargo Shanley, and graduated from Moorhead Senior High in 1958. She later became a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, in Moorhead when Christ Lutheran in Georgetown closed. She was an active member of the Georgetown Homemakers group, the Georgetown Gardenaires and the Moorhead Healthcare Center Auxiliary for many years. Marlis was active with the Independent Republicans of Clay County, once serving as chairwoman. She was instrumental in starting a senior meal program for the Georgetown Community Center and was a member of the 11th District Horticulture Society. She entered many flower and garden shows over the years and won numerous awards for her effort. Marlis was also a member of the American Legion and VFW Auxiliaries in Moorhead.
After 25 years of working on the family farm, Marlis sought employment in town and was named Executive Director of Heritage Villa Retirement Apartments from 1986-1999. During her retirement years, Marlis volunteered at church with the quilting group, LWML, local nursing homes and VA Hospital. She served on the Scholarship Foundation at MN Community & Technical College. She also wrote recipes for the FM Extra for many years.
The Ziegler farm had an open-door policy, whether a place to stay, a meal, or just someone to talk to. Many young people called the farm their home, some for weeks and some for months at a time.
