Marlowe M. Parries, age 92, of Moorhead, MN, died Saturday, June 1, 2013, in Rosewood on Broadway in Fargo, ND.

Marlowe Martin "Bud" Parries was born June 7, 1920, to Martin and Philma (Fischer) Parries in Fargo, ND. He attended St. Mary's Grade School and graduated from Sacred Heart Academy High School in 1938. He attended college at the North Dakota AC graduating in 1943, with a BS degree in chemical technology.

He served in the U.S. Navy in WWII as a communications officer and was assigned to Fleet Airwings in the South Pacific.

For 8 years, Marlowe carried the Fargo Forum, serving a route that covered part of downtown Fargo. After the war he was briefly employed as a paint chemist in Kankakee, IL, but returned to the area to work at Northwest Oil Equipment of Moorhead, becoming co-owner and later sole owner.

Marlowe was united in marriage to Irene "Joan" Wilkens, at St. Anthony's Church in Fargo, on January 15, 1955. They lived in Moorhead where they raised their 6 children.

Marlowe was an avid amateur radio operator, holding an FCC license since age 15. He had contacted ham radio stations in virtually every country in the world. He enjoyed the friendship of many local ham radio operators.

He was also an accomplished wood worker and over the years had made many projects from furniture to toys. He always had to make 7 of each item, one for his wife and one for each of his 6 children. He enjoyed golfing at area courses and even managed to hit a hole-in-one.

Marlowe was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Leonette (Marvin) Koeplin, and Betty (Joseph) Kenney; and infant son, Lynn.

Marlowe is survived by his wife, Joan; his children, Paul, Beacon, NY, Gregory (Beth), St. Cloud, MN, Daniel (Kay), Moorhead, Vincent (Shelly), West Fargo, ND, Teresa (Kevin) Ohnstad, Argusville, ND, and Barbara, Fargo; grandchildren, Jeffrey, Emily, David, Sara, Megan, Molly, Amanda, Nicholas, Emma, Anna, Jill, Henry, Andrew and Hunter.

The family would like to thank the staff of Rosewood on Broadway nursing home for their care and kindness during Marlowe's last days there.

Visitation: Wednesday, 5 PM to 7 PM with a Prayer Service at 6:30 PM in Korsmo Funeral Service, Moorhead.

Mass of Christian Burial: Thursday, June 6, 2013, at 11:00 AM, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Moorhead.

Interment: St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Moorhead.
