Marlys Paulson, 82, Fargo, ND, formerly of Moorhead, MN, and Rothsay, MN, died Monday, August 9, 2010, in Elim Rehab and Care Center, Fargo.

Marlys, daughter of Reverend E.O. Stenson and Esther Stenson, was born in Page, ND, on October 10, 1927. She graduated from Pelican Rapids High School and also resided in Halstad, MN, and Spicer, MN where her father served as the Pastor for those local parishes. Marlys attended Concordia College and Fairview Nursing School in Minneapolis, MN, where she obtained a Nursing degree.

Marlys married Howard E. Paulson on September 5, 1953, at Hamar Lutheran Church. They made their home in Rothsay where he was employed at the Farmers State Bank and she remained at home with children.

Marlys was active in Hamar Lutheran Church in Rothsay serving as organist for 30 years under Reverend Maynard Stokka. She was also active in the American Cancer Society, the Women's Circle, and served many in her community. During these years Marlys regularly drove to Fergus Falls to take more lessons on the organ and several times she took on students of her own in either piano or organ. Music was a very big part of her life, and at one time, she had trouble deciding between nursing and music.
In 1991, they moved to Moorhead where they resided for 19 years and were members of Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd where she served in the Stephen's Ministry Group, at church suppers and was also a docent leading tours at the Comstock House.

Paulson, Moorhead, and Karen Thompson, Denver, CO. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one brother, Donald E. Stenson, Blaine, MN; and two aunts, Ida (Halvorson) Nordvall and Pearl (Halvorson) Vries.
