Martha C. Thompson

Martha Cornelia Sliper was born Dec. 18, 1917, in Mayville, ND, to Lawrence and Thonethe (Anderson) Sliper, the third of three children. She grew up and attended schools in the upper Midwest. On Feb. 14, 1936, she married Noble Thompson, in Kidder, SD. They farmed in the Rutland, ND, area until 1958, when they moved to Moorhead. She worked for MinnKota Manufacturing Company, until retiring in 1979.

Martha was a lady of deep Christian faith. She loved her Lord and her church, where she was active in worship, Bible study and Wednesday Fellowship. She was a "perfectionist" in caring for her home, flowers, and yard, and in her personal appearance. She did ladies handwork including Norwegian Hardanger. Finally, she truly cared for her family, and loved time spent with them.

Martha died Friday, Nov. 11, 2016, in Kind-er Care Home, West Fargo, ND, at the age of 98 years. She is survived by a daughter, Marjorie (Marlan) Stole, Bloomington, MN; two sons, Robert (Natalie) and William (Deloris) Thompson, both Moorhead; son-in-law, Willie (Viola) Paluck, Dickinson, ND; 10 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Noble, who died in 2002; a daughter, Betty Lou Paluck, who died in 1994; her parents; and two brothers, Lief and Hartvig Sliper.

Visitation for Martha will be held on Thursday, Nov. 17, 2016, from 1 PM until 2 PM, in First Lutheran Church, Fargo. Her memorial service will follow at 2 PM, also in First Lutheran Church. Inurnment will be in Moorhead Memorial Gardens.

The family suggests that memorials be given to First Lutheran Church Wednesday Fellowship.
