Martha Shaner

Martha Neoma Gilbertson was born July 29, 1926, in Pelican Rapids, MN, to Gust and Olga (Enger) Gilbertson. She graduated from Barnesville (MN) High School.

Martha married Vern Dale Shaner on October 29, 1946, in Hawley, MN, and they lived in Rothsay, MN, before moving to Barnesville in 1947. They moved to Glyndon, MN, in 1959.

Vern died on October 7, 1998, and Martha continued to live in Glyndon. Under the loving care of her family and Hospice of the Red River Valley, Martha died at home on Wednesday, December 16, 2015, at eighty-nine years of age.

She is survived by her children, Allan (Margaret) Shaner, Frazee, MN, Vernes (Ric) Koval, Lafayette, MN, and Hazel (Tim) Johnson, Stephenson, MI; daughter-in-law, Jody (Louie) Eidenschink, Detroit Lakes, MN; six grandchildren; one stepgrandson; eleven great-grandchildren; brothers, Orrie (Arlene) Gilbertson, Pelican Rapids, and Gordon Gilbertson, Barnesville; sister, Etta Bekkerus, Glyndon; seventeen nieces and nephews and their spouses; and numerous grandnieces, grandnephews, and their children.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Martha was preceded in death by her son, Elwood; and her sister-in-law, Claudia Gilbertson.

Visitation for Martha will be Sunday, December 20, 2015, from 3 - 6 PM, with a prayer service at 5 PM, in Maranatha Free Lutheran Church, Glyndon.

Her funeral will be Monday, December 21, 2015, at 11 AM, at the church.

Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Glyndon.
