Marvin Thomas Norman was born November 21, 1923, to J. Victor and Hilja (Huttula) Norman in Borup, MN, where he was raised and received his education. Marvin entered the Army in November of 1944. Upon his discharge in May of 1946, he returned home and worked various jobs in Hawley, MN, Lake Park, MN, and Wadena, MN.
On April 21, 1951, Marvin married C. Bernice Hovelsrud in Hawley where they made their home. They settled in Moorhead, MN, in 1975 and Marvin worked for the Nash-Finch Company for twenty-four years.
In January of 2007, Marvin and Bernice moved into the Fairmont of Moorhead. Bernice died on September 3, 2007, and Marvin continued to make his home at the Fairmont until becoming a resident at Rosewood on Broadway, Fargo, ND. He died there on Friday, May 30, 2008, at the age of eighty-four, under the care of the Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Marvin enjoyed golfing and camping at the Golden Eagle Campground. He served as President of the Dilworth Lutheran Church Council for two terms and was a member of their call committee. Marvin was a life member of the Moorhead VFW and was also a member of the Dilworth American Legion and Lake Park American Legion where he served as Commander.
He is survived by a daughter, Julie Norman, Fargo; a son, Wayne Norman, St. Peter, MN; and three sisters-in-law, Vivian, Iva and Clarice.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter; and three brothers, Dave, Danny, and Uno.
