Mary Ann Grottodden, 71, of Sarasota, FL, formerly of Moorhead and Minneapolis, MN, died unexpectedly Sunday, June 15, 2014, in Sarasota. As a child, Mary Ann had polio and later in life had been dealing with progressive dysphagia, which had become severe in the last few years. Even throughout this difficult time, Mary Ann continued to enjoy life with a positive spirit.
Mary Ann grew up in Moorhead and was a graduate of Concordia College in Moorhead. She was an elementary teacher in the Mound-Westonka School District for many years, retiring in 2000. Over the years she worked with the hospitality staff at Orchestra Hall, volunteered considerable time with the Hennepin County Humane Society, and was an active Jazzercise participant into her 60s. In 2003, she moved to Chattanooga, TN, and then to Sarasota, FL, in 2011.
She is survived by her brother, Peter Grottodden and his family.
Mary Ann has been interred next to her parents, Ole and Lorene Grottodden, in Moorhead Memorial Gardens in Moorhead
