Mary Beth Carney was born July 9, 1944, in Moorhead, MN, to Thomas "Bus" and Julia (Skjaret) Carney. She attended St. Joseph’s School for primary education and graduated from Moorhead High School in 1962.
After high school, Mary moved to California with her sister, Gail, and cousin, Betty Lou, where she worked as a waitress at various restaurants and enjoyed California living. It was in California where she met her husband, Roger. They were married on February 12, 1966, and had their first son, Scott, in 1970. Shortly after, they moved back to Moorhead to be closer to family. Their second son, Cory, was born in 1974.
Mary was a proud homemaker, dedicating herself to raising Scott and Cory. When her sons were teenagers, she returned to work as a waitress at The Nestor and later at the American Legion in Moorhead. Most of all, Mary loved spending time with her family.
In 2010, Mary and Roger moved to Golden Valley, MN, to be closer to Scott, Cory and their families.
After several years living with dementia, Mary passed away peacefully with her family by her side at the Sholom Home West in St. Louis Park, MN, under hospice care, at the age of eighty.
Mary is survived by her husband, Roger; children, Scott (Amber) Arnseth, Golden Valley, MN, and Cory (Jaime) Arnseth, Minneapolis, MN; two grandchildren, Jude Arnseth and Jasper Arnseth; her siblings, Jerry (Bette) Carney, Mike (Nancy) Carney, Barb Carney, Julienne (Ron) Roufs, Joe (Jenny) Carney, and Patty (Ray) Brasel; as well as sisters-in-law, Karan Carney and LaVaughn Carney. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three siblings, Thomas "Buddy" Carney, Gail Cain and John Carney.
Mary’s presence will be deeply missed, but her love and spirit will live on in the hearts of her family and all who knew her.
Visitation will begin at 10 AM, with a Memorial Mass at 11 AM, Thursday, October 3, 2024, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Moorhead.
