Mary E. Naasz

Mary E. Naasz, 72, Moorhead, MN, died Sunday, December 15, 2024, at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, ND.

Mary Elizabeth Naasz was born November 23, 1952, in Detroit Lakes, MN, to Alfred and Magdeline (Sazama) Silbernagel. She was raised in Moorhead, graduating from Moorhead High School. On March 13, 1970, Mary was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Jerrold Naasz at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Moorhead. 

Newly married, Mary and Jerry moved to Blaine, MN and in 1975, they welcomed their first daughter, Jennifer. They moved back to Moorhead in 1976, and in 1979, they welcomed their second daughter, Erica. 

Mary worked for a few different companies throughout her working career doing accounting and bookkeeping. She realized she had a knack for keeping things organized and working with numbers, so Mary continued in this line of work until her retirement in 2019. 

Mary enjoyed tending to her gardens in the summer and crafting, especially ceramics. She shared her crafting talents with her daughters and also taught them how to cross stitch. Mary spoke fondly of the times she and Jerry went barn dancing at the lake when they were younger. As a family, Valley Fair was always a summer highlight, especially if Jennifer and Erica could get Mary on a scary rollercoaster. Time shared as a family was most important to Mary, memories of movie nights to decorating for Christmas (Mary’s favorite time of year), will always be remembered and missed. 

Mary is survived by her husband, Jerry; two daughters, Jennifer Bourque and Erica (Rick) Haven; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Ann (Terry) Trautmann and Rita Miller. 

 She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Steve; and a brother-in-law, Gary. 

Visitation for Mary will be Thursday, December 19, 2024, from 5pm until 7pm in Korsmo Funeral and Cremation Service of Moorhead.  Her Funeral service will be Friday, December 20, 2024, at 2pm at the funeral home.
