Mary Hencz was born September 26, 1926, in Butte, MT, to Theodore and Anna (Krush) Hencz. When Mary was a young girl, the family moved to Wilton, ND, where she graduated from high school in 1946.

At twenty years of age, Mary moved to Portland, OR, where she was one of the "Rosie the Riveters" in the shipyards during the latter stages of WWII. She returned to Bismarck, ND, where she began her career as a bookkeeper with Montana Dakota Utilities.

Mary was united in marriage to Omer Tweten on December 28, 1948, in Bismarck, where they continued to make their home. They lived in Dickinson, ND, for a time where she also worked for MDU. Mary and Omer lived in Camp Pendleton, CA, from 1952 - 1954, while Omer served his country with the US Marines. They moved to Fargo, ND, in 1954. They lived in Bismarck from 1955 to 1966, and to Moorhead, MN, in 1966. She worked in food service at Concordia College, Moorhead, for fifteen years.

Mary was an avid fan of the Minnesota Vikings and never missed a game. Her time with family, especially the grandkids, on Lake Lida was something she treasured. She loved gardening and cooking and was known for her homemade pierogies and beef stroganoff.
