Maureen E. (McCawley) Fischer, 71, of Moorhead, MN, passed away on Monday, July 15, 2013, in Pelican Rapids, MN, at the home of her longtime friend, Ernest Seidel, surrounded by family, under Hospice care, after a long battle with pancreatic cancer.
Maureen was born July 1, 1942, at St. John's Hospital in Fargo, ND. After a short stay at St. John's Orphanage, she was adopted by James and Veronica (Theisen) McCawley of Moorhead where she grew up and attended elementary school at St. Joseph's Catholic School. After graduating from Moorhead Senior High in 1960, she attended Moorhead State University. In 1963, Maureen married John Fischer from Moorhead. She worked for the Moorhead School District as a paraprofessional in special education from 1977 to 2004.
Maureen was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and a member of Catholic Daughters. She enjoyed summers at the lake, time outdoors and traveling with friends and family. Maureen's fantastic sense of humor and an unwavering faith in God throughout her battle with pancreatic cancer, served as a source of inspiration to all who knew her.
Maureen is survived by her long time companion, Ernest Seidel of Pelican Rapids; brother, James (Holley) McCawley of Detroit Lakes, MN; stepmother, Lorraine McCawley of Detroit Lakes; four children, Colleen Schaak of Coon Rapids, MN, Barry (Kathie) of Victoria, MN, Rick (Renae) of Cedar Rapids, IA, and Sheila (Barry) Pedersen of Fargo; eight grandchildren and three great- grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father, James "Mac" McCawley and mother, Veronica McCawley.
Visitation: Thursday, 5 PM to 7 PM with a prayer service at 7PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.
Funeral: Friday, July 19, 2013, at 2 PM, St Joseph Catholic Church, Moorhead.
Burial: St. Joseph's Cemetery, Moorhead.
