Mavis Irene Osmundson (Sorenson) age 81, Averill, MN, died Monday, April 16, 2007 in Eventide Lutheran Home in Moorhead, MN.
Mavis was born on a farm west of Ada, MN on July 27, 1925. She attended schools at Averill, Perley, Pleasant Plain Country School, and graduated from Ada High School in 1943. She moved to Moorhead, staying with relatives and worked at Northwestern Bell Telephone Co., in Fargo, ND. She married Omar J. Osmundson on October 25, 1945. They lived in the "old" bank building in Averill. She cooked at the Averill school for many years until it closed in 1969. Omar died February 3, 2003, at which time they had been married for 57 years.
Mavis is survived by three sons, Harold, Moorhead, Daryl (Penni), Ames, IA, and Michael (Peggy Jo), Silver Bay, MN; a daughter, Ruth, Fargo; two step-brothers, Daniel (Phyllis) Claypool, Independence, IA, and Samuel (Connie) Claypool, St. Paul, MN; two step-sisters, Audrey Oakman, Virginia, MN, and Lois (Ancel) Lindquist, East Grand Forks, MN; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Three step-sisters preceded her in death, Florence Payne, Aurora, IA, Phyllis Westrom, Minneapolis, MN, and Goldie Medearis, Strawberry Point, IA.
Visitation: Sunday, from 5 PM until 8 PM, with a prayer service at 7 PM, in
Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead,
and one hour prior to the funeral.
Funeral service: Monday, April 23, 2007 at 11 AM,
Scandia Lutheran Church, Averill.
