McGarrett Dion Moffett, age 50, passed away soulfully on Saturday, June 8, 2024, at Sanford in Fargo, ND.
He was born March 18, 1974, in Columbia, LA, to the late James Eggins Sr. and Dealy Williams. He was united in marriage to Sally Zapata Moffett on July 21, 2007, in Sabin, MN.
McGarrett Moffett was known as a big teddy bear to many, but to his wife Sally he was Sully from Monster’s Inc. Big and intimidating, but nothing but a big pillow of comfort and kindness and full of respect due to his southern hospitality.
During McGarrett’s 50 years of life he was part of a bowling and pool league, his favorite past time was fishing, but his true passion was in creating new culinary masterpieces and flavors. He loved wandering around Marshalls and Home Goods aisles searching for new unique cooking oils and seasonings. He was sure a blessed chef that loved to spoil his wife’s hungry heart.
McGarrett went to culinary school and learned that he disliked baking, but he made his wife a “Tres Leches,” cake for her 38th birthday and from there kept going as he also made his great-niece, Amelia’s, 5th golden birthday cake and his great-nephew, Adrian, a Shark themed birthday cake.
This southern blues and country karaoke singing man found a love for Spanish music. He made his own Spanish music playlists and would ride around jamming to them even if he didn’t understand what was being said, he just loved the beats. McGarrett was so in love with the Spanish culture that his current daily habit was learning a new Spanish word from his mini-Spanish desk calendar.
From random road trips to traveling out of the country, McGarrett strived for adventure and now he is on an eternal one. McGarrett always said to never say Goodbye but see you later.
He is survived by his wife, Sally Zapata Moffett of Dilworth, MN; a mother, Dealy Williams and his stepdad, James Williams, of Columbia, LA; four sisters, Mattie Hall of Chatham, LA, Melissa (Lee) Walker, Betty Green, Lillie (Shawn) Willis, all of Columbia, LA; numerous nieces and nephews; and numerous amount of great nieces, nephews and god children which he simply adored!
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Pete Moffett “Papa”; father, James Eggins, Sr.; sister, Maria Moffett; niece, Ashanti LaShawn Willis; and brother, James Woodrow Moffett, Jr.
A celebration of life will take place in his honor on Sunday, July 21, 2024, at M.B. Johnson Park Moorhead, MN, from 12-4pm.
