Melvin A. Rasmussen

Melvin Andrew Rasmussen was born January 3, 1929, in Fargo, ND, to Andrew and Martha (Lindvik) Rasmussen, the youngest of three boys. He died peacefully in his home at RiverPointe, Moorhead, MN, on Thursday, July 7, 2016, at 87 years of age.

Mel graduated from Moorhead High School and shortly after joined the US Army. After his military service, he started his electrical career at Edling Electric in Moorhead. He then met the love of his life, Hazel Massey. They were married September 5, 1953, in Fargo, and had four children.

Mel continued his electrical work at 3M in St. Paul, MN, and then back in Moorhead, he was a partner in MelRay Electric. He eventually had his own company, Mel's Electric, until he retired in 1994.

Many happy years were spent at West McDonald Lake with his family. Mel was full time caregiver for Hazel for seven years, until her death in 2002.

Mel is survived by his four children, Steve (Lori) and their children, Jason (Jennifer), Nick, and Adam (Tessa) Rasmussen, Chuck (Debbie) and their children, Alex (Brittiany), Jeremy (Laura), and Melissa (fiancé, Tom Loonan) Rasmussen, Ann Rosenthal and her children, Andy and Mitch Rosenthal, and Tom Rasmussen; seven great-grandchildren, and a brother, Morris.

He was also preceded in death by his brother, Raymond.

The family would like to thank everyone at RiverPointe of Moorhead for all the love and wonderful care Mel received while there and also to Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Memorials may be directed to Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Visitation will be from 5 - 7 PM, with a prayer service at 7 PM, Sunday July 17, 2016, at Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.

The funeral will be at 2 PM, Monday, July 18, 2016, at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Moorhead.

Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fargo.
