Merle M. Taylor

Merle Taylor, 90, Moorhead, MN, went Home on Tuesday, September 26, 2017, in Frazee Care Center, Frazee, MN.

Merle Martin Taylor was born January 2, 1927, in Fargo, ND. He was the son of Art and Magdelina (Maier) Taylor. Merle grew up in Moorhead. In 1945, at the age of eighteen, Merle joined the Army. He faced the horrors of the battle in Okinawa. He was honorably discharged in 1947.

Merle returned home and met the love of his life, Georgia Ruth Dalen. They were married on May 8, 1948, in Georgetown, MN, and made their home in Moorhead. Merle worked as a custodian for Moorhead Public Schools at the time of his retirement.

Although Merle and Georgia had no children of their own, they delighted in helping with their nieces and nephews. Georgia and Merle were the caregivers for their families, helping where needed. They also enjoyed working together in their beautiful yard. They attended church at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Moorhead.

One cannot mention Merle without including Georgia: they believed their marriage was created in heaven. All who knew the two of them would agree. Now Merle and Georgia are forever together. Merle was a kind and caring man. Even though his Alzheimer's had taken so much from him, we could still see that he was a pleasant and sweet man.

The family is grateful for the loving care he received at Frazee Care Center since Georgia's death eighteen months ago. He was in good hands. Hospice of Minnesota also cared for him the last two weeks of his life.

Merle is survived by his only sister, Dorothy Sanders, Moorhead. He also will be lovingly remembered by many nieces and nephews and their families, as well as many friends.

Visitation will be from 10 - 11 AM, followed by a funeral Mass at 11 AM, Saturday, September 30, 2017, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Moorhead.

Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Moorhead.
