Michael J. Sigdestad Sr., 73, of Moorhead, MN, passed away Saturday, November 16, 2024, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital, Minneapolis, MN.
Michael John Sigdestad Sr. was born December 11, 1950, the son of Carol Sigdestad, in Minneapolis, MN. Michael began his professional journey at Mid-America Steel and then Fargo Iron and Metal. He would then go on to join the Moorhead Fire Department on February 1, 1974. Michael served with honor dedicating twenty-seven years of his life before retiring on April 26, 2001. After his retirement, Michael and longtime companion, Deborah, devoted their time caring for rescue dogs. Together, they trained three therapy dogs, who became integral members of the caregiving team at Essentia Hospital in Fargo.
One to never sit still, Michael could always be found fixing or working on things around the house. He took great pride in helping restore and then maintain the Moorhead Fire Department Buffalo Fire Truck. Additionally, he found joy in hobbies such as model trains and assembling jigsaw puzzles.
He is survived by his longtime companion, Deborah; children, Laura, Derrick and Michael Jr.; three grandchildren; and his faithful canine companions, Katie, Josie, Charlie and Elsa.
He was preceded in death by his mother and his grandparents.
