Michael Wayne Liljestrand was born December 14, 1951, to George and Loretta (Hultman) Liljestrand, in Fergus Falls, MN. Mike was raised in Fergus Falls where he graduated from high school in 1970. After high school, Mike attended Lake Region Community College
In 1971, he was united in marriage to Debra Devorak, and they made their home in Fergus Falls until moving to Moorhead, MN, in 1973. They had one son, Michael Jr. It was at that time Mike began his many years in drywall construction.
On June 16, 1977, he married Susan Havlis and they made their home in Dilworth, MN. They had two children, Ryan and Emily.
Mike enjoyed hunting and fishing. He had a passion for the outdoors and a great knowledge and appreciation for nature. He was a member of the Broken Arrow and Sand Hills Archery Clubs for many years. Michael had been with his longtime love and best friend, Deb Storbakken, since 1997. Michael worked construction in the Fargo area for over thirty years. His most recent employer was Stephenson Drywall and Lathing of Fargo
Michael went to be with God on Wednesday morning, December 6, 2006, after a courageous fifteen-month battle with cancer. He passed away at MeritCare Palliative Care Unit, at fifty-four years of age.
Mike is survived by Deb Storbakken, Moorhead; sons, Mike (Sarah), Oakport, MN, Ryan, Fargo; daughter, Emily, Dilworth; brother, Jeff (Donna), Grand Marais, MN; friends, Deb (Liljestrand) Nelson and Sue Liljestrand, of Dilworth; one grandson, Zacharyah Hun
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and Deb's son, Chad.
Memorial Service for Mike will be Saturday, December 9, 2006, at 1 PM, in Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Moorhead.
