Michael W. Smette

Michael W. Smette, age 65, of Fargo, ND, died Tuesday, May 9, 2017, in ManorCare Health Services, Fargo.

Michael Wayne Smette, the son of Harvey and Helen (Bauman) Smette, was born in Fargo, on February 6, 1952. He grew up in Buxton, ND, and graduated from Central Valley High School in 1969. He graduated from NDSU in Fargo, in 1973. Following graduation, Mike moved to Saskatchewan, Canada and worked as an agricultural engineer. In 1982, he returned to Fargo and worked as a design engineer for Concord, Case IH, and finally for Amity Technology, until poor health forced his retirement in about 2010. He specialized in developing the air till drill and other tillage equipment.

On November 19, 1983, Mike was united in marriage to Alice Huff, in Fargo, where they made their home. Mike was active in their church, Bethel Evangelical Free Church, as an usher, a deacon, and an AWANA leader. He enjoyed fishing and woodworking. Other than his faith in Jesus Christ, the passion of his life was to be a loving husband, a great dad, and a caring grandpa.

Mike is survived by his wife, Alice, Fargo; daughter, Carrie Smette, Fargo; son, Nathan (Kari) Huff, Billings, MT; a brother, Roger (Shellie) Smette, Cummings, ND; and grandchildren, Finnegan and Adeline Huff. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A gathering of friends for Mike will be held Friday, from 5 PM until 7 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead. His memorial service will be Saturday, May 13, 2017, at 2 PM, in Bethel Evangelical Free Church, Fargo.
