Myron W. Maurstad, 89, Georgetown, MN, died suddenly on Sunday, January 23, 2011, at Sanford Medical Center, Fargo, ND.
Myron was born May 9, 1921, in Hallock, MN, to Ole and Olga Maurstad and the family settled on a farm in rural Argyle, MN. Myron served in the Army during WWII, and was stationed in Okinawa and the Philippines. He also served on a government airway project in Greenland driving the gas truck. Upon his discharge, Myron managed the VFW in Warren, MN, and owned and operated Myron's Café in Perley, MN.
On June 25, 1958, Myron married Olive Dyrendahl in Moorhead, MN. They lived briefly in Perley and Hendrum, MN, and eventually settled in Georgetown, where they lived for over 44 years. They had one daughter, Barbara.
Myron worked for Tallman Oil Co. and continued to work there for 20 years until buying the Georgetown plant in 1978. He renamed it Maurstad Oil and hauled fuel until his retirement in 1991.
Georgetown was Myron's home and he served on the city council from the early 1970s and then as mayor for 16 years. After 1997, he worked hard to get permanent flood control for Georgetown.
Everyone knew Myron and he did not need an invitation to go visiting, stop in for coffee, or check up on his many friends. He could often be found cooking for an event and playing Smear with his card buddies.
