Myrtle C. (Hanson) Brekke, 89, died Monday, August 22, 2011, at her home in Moorhead, MN, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley and her family.
Myrtle was born October 26, 1921, to Elliot and Meta Hanson in Moorhead, where she attended and graduated from high school.
Myrtle was united in marriage to Harvey Brekke on August 9, 1941, in Moorhead. She stayed home to raise their two daughters until her later years, when she and her sister operated the lunch counter at the Fargo Courthouse. Myrtle also received a letter of recognition and appreciation from the US Air Force for her role as the manager of the PX on the military base in Yuma, AZ.
Myrtle is survived by two daughters, Sharon (Barry) Bach, Fargo, ND, and Carole Kvidt, Fargo; five grandchildren, Sheila (Rob) Jacobson, Stacy (Nate) Chesley, Brian (Jessica) Bach, Jeremy (Kristen) Kvidt, and Sarah (Patrick) George; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey; two sisters, Irene Larson and Gloria Burton; one brother, Kenneth Hanson; and her parents.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Hospice of the Red River Valley.
