Myrtle Lima

Myrtle A. Helland was born January 3, 1923, on the family farm near Binford, ND, to Hjalmer and Julia (Gilbertson) Helland. When Myrtle was a young girl, the family moved to Hannaford, ND. She worked as a housekeeper for families in Hannaford and Fargo, ND.

Myrtle married Jacob D. Lima on August 8, 1942, in Valley City, ND, and they made their home on his family farm in the Cooperstown area. They moved to Fargo in 1947, where she raised her family. Myrtle managed the lunch counter at Edgewood Golf Course, Fargo, in the 1960s, and later worked at JC Penney in downtown Fargo.

They moved to a farmstead near Leonard, ND, for a time, and returned to Fargo in 1977. Jacob died January 23, 2013, and Myrtle remained in Fargo. She died Wednesday, November 20, 2013, at Villa Maria, Fargo, at ninety years of age.

Myrtle was a member of Primetimers, had a love for travel with Jacob, and enjoyed quilting. She prided herself on being a wife and mother to her family.

Myrtle is survived by her daughter, Joyce (Robert) Braaten, Two Harbors, MN; son, Jerome (Claudia), Fargo; five grandchildren, Bobbi Jo (Dan) Larson, Keith Braaten, and Wade Braaten, all of Two Harbors, and Jodie and Tamara (fiancé Jeremy Cusey) Lima, both of Fargo; four great-grandchildren, Jenni (Nick) Patterson, Duluth, MN, Alan (Amy Hall) Larson, Silver Spring, MD, and Diandra Knapper and Dalton Knapper, both of Fargo; two brothers, Howard (Violet) Helland, Rochester, MN, and Gordon (Nancy) Helland, Kalispell, MT; and two sisters, Gladys Vammen, Pennsylvania, and Irene Cook, Hamilton, MT.

She was also preceded in death by a brother, Arthur Helland; and a sister, Sylvia Haugen.

Visitation will be Monday, November 25, 2013, from 4 - 6 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.

The funeral will be Tuesday, November 26, 2013, at 1 PM, in Triumph Lutheran Brethren Church, Moorhead.

Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fargo.
