Natalie Breiland

Natalie Nelson, daughter of Nels and Olga (Olson) Nelson, was born March 15, 1920, in Hatton, ND. She grew up and received her education in the Hatton area. She also attended Interstate Business College in Fargo. After finishing Interstate Business College, Natalie worked for the Farmers Home Administration in Carson, ND.


On May 25, 1939, Natalie married Berton Johnson in Hatton. In 1950, they made their home in the Fargo-Moorhead area. Natalie worked as a clerk at a number of retail stores and in the office of the Arthritis Foundation in Fargo.


In 1966, she was married to Oscar Breiland. He preceded her in death. For the last five years, Natalie has been a resident of Rosewood on Broadway in Fargo, where she died on April 6, 2006, at the age of 86.


She is survived by four children, Barbara Gillie, Waubun, MN, Berton G. Johnson Jr., St. Louis, MO, Bradley N. (Kathy) Johnson, Dilworth, MN, and Bruce N. Johnson, Rothsay, MN; 9 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, Cherie Gillie, Jeanette Gillie-Harp and her children Carly & Isaac Gary, Michael (Shelli) Gillie and their children, Kaitlyn & Kristen, Amanda Johnson, Chara Johnson and her children, Jonathan & Shannon, Jami Johnson, Matthew Johnson, Nikie Johnson, and Mellisa (Scott) Matthys and their children, Christopher, Daniel & Joshua.
