Norma Bergum

Norma Clarice Romuld was born October 26, 1922, in Crookston, MN, to Emil and Freda (Wentzel) Romuld. Norma was baptized November 22, 1922, and confirmed May 31, 1936. She attended grade school and junior high school in Crookston.

In 1938, the family moved to McIntosh, MN, where she graduated from high school in 1941. Norma moved to California in 1942, where she worked in a defense plant for one year. She moved to Minneapolis, MN, in 1943, and worked for a short time at Honeywell.

Norma entered the US Marine Corps on November 12, 1943. She was based at Cherry Point and Camp Lejeune, NC, until her discharge on January 26, 1946. She moved to Moorhead, MN, and worked at the F-M Hotel, and Northern School Supply, in Fargo, ND.

Norma married Walter Bergum on March 3, 1951, in Minneapolis, and he died July 24, 1977. Norma continued to reside in Moorhead, until her death on Monday, November 18, 2013, at Eventide on Eighth, Moorhead, at ninety-one years of age.

Norma was very proud of her service to her country, and participated on an Honor Flight to Washington, DC, and Arlington National Cemetery, for three days in May of 2007. She was a member of Moorhead VFW Auxiliary 1223, and the Marine Corps League, Fargo.

Norma is survived by her son, David Bergum, Moorhead; daughter, Diane (Harlan) Bendickson, Moorhead; grandson, Shawn (Deb) Bendickson; granddaughter, Julie Bendickson; great-grandson, Xavier Bendickson; and a brother, Lyle Romuld, Moorhead. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter; brothers, Oliver, Morris, Harry, and Edward; and a sister, Ella.

Visitation will begin at 9:30 AM, with the funeral at 10:30 AM, Friday, November 22, 2013, in Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Moorhead. Burial, with full military honors, will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fargo.
