Norma Jensen

Norma R.J. Jensen, 93, Moorhead, MN, formerly of Ulen, MN, passed away Friday, November 4, 2016, at Eventide on Eighth, Moorhead.

Norma was born December 30, 1922, in Ulen, to Nellie Hellem, and was raised by her Norwegian grandparents. She was baptized and confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Ulen. Although Norma did not learn to speak English until she entered kindergarten, she went on to graduate from Ulen High School and subsequently Dakota School of Business in Fargo, ND.

She was united in marriage to Harvey Jensen in 1957 and made their home in Moorhead. Norma worked at the Veteran's Administration and then at the Internal Revenue Service in Fargo from where she eventually retired after 35 years.

Norma loved music and was a proud member of the choir at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Moorhead where she was a member for over 50 years.

She loved animals and had many pets over the course of her life. Feeding the birds, squirrels, and rabbits in her yard was one of her daily rituals. Her other hobbies included canning, baking, sewing, gardening, and family genealogy. Norma also loved to socialize and was always happy to share coffee and cookies with friends and relatives that would visit. At the end of the day she enjoyed watching television shows and movies that reminded her of past years. Little House on the Prairie, The Waltons, Lawrence Welk, and The Sound of Music were a few of her favorites.
Norma and Harvey loved to travel and were proud to have visited almost every state in the U.S. However, the trip most dear to them was the one they made to visit relatives in Norway and Denmark. She was extremely proud of her heritage and never hesitated to tell people that she was 100% Norwegian.

She is survived by two sons, Ron (Deb) Jensen, Moorhead, and Gary (Denise) Jensen, Jamestown, ND; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Norma was preceded in death by her husband and parents.

Visitation: Tuesday, November 8, 2016, from 5-7 PM with prayer service at 7 PM at Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.

Funeral Service: Wednesday, November 9, 2016, at 11 AM in Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Moorhead.

Interment: West Ulen Cemetery, Ulen.
