O'Dean L. Swanson

O’Dean L. Swanson, 72, New Brighton, MN, formerly of Fargo, ND, and Moorhead, MN, died Monday, October 9, 2023 at his residence and under care of Hospice.

O’Dean “Dean” Lawrence Swanson was born January 31, 1951, in Fargo to Orville and Anna (Johanson).   He grew up in Fargo, graduating from Oak Grove High School in 1969 where he excelled in wrestling.   Following school, he attended Mayville State University for one year and NDSU for a year. 

On June 21, 1975, Dean was united in marriage to Dorene Wigesland at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Fargo.   They resided in Moorhead and welcomed two daughters, Meghan and Morgan. 

Dean worked as a maltster for Anheuser-Busch in Moorhead for over 20 years. 

An avid outdoorsman, Dean loved to hunt and was active in martial arts most of his life.  He was a lifetime member of the YMCA.  

Dean will be remembered and missed by his wife, Dorene; two daughters, Meghan (Peter) Dangerfield and Morgan (Chris) Early; and two grandsons, Henry Dangerfield and Erik Dangerfield.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister and brother-in-law, Colleen and Richard McLaughlin; and grandson, William Dangerfield.

A Celebration of Life will be held Monday, October 16, 2023, at 2PM in Mueller-Bies Funeral Home, Roseville, MN with a gathering of family and friends one hour prior.  A second Celebration of Life will be held Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at 11AM in Korsmo Funeral and Cremation Service, Moorhead with a time of gathering one hour prior.
