Odelia "Ode" Amanda Kaastad was born September 3, 1921, at Hannaford, ND, to Ole and Dora (Kalland) Kaastad. She was baptized at Union Lutheran Church, Hannaford, and confirmed at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Valley City, ND.
Ode attended elementary school at Hannaford and graduated from Valley City High School in 1939. She worked for a time at Valley City State Teacher's College. Ode was united in marriage to Arvid Kalvik, on July 5, 1941, and they lived at Army bases in Wyoming, Washington and Oklahoma, during WW II.
After Arvid was discharged from the service in 1945, they lived in Detroit Lakes, MN, Valley City, and settled in Fargo, ND in 1952. Ode worked at Dakota Clinic and later St. Luke's Hospital, both Fargo. She retired from the housekeeping department in October of 1983. Arvid died February 12, 1984.
Ode died Thursday, March 26, 2009, at Sunnyside Care Center, Lake Park, MN, at eighty-seven years of age.
Ode is survived by her son, Jerry (fiancée, Patti Cummins), Fargo; four grandchildren, Paul Kalvik, Deborah Nichols, Jennifer (Chris) Theiste and Tara (Jonathan) Fink; and seven great-grandchildren, Cass, Alec, Conner, Averie, Ethan, Isaak and Aiden.
In addition to her husband, Ode was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol; her parents; three sisters, Alma, Olga and Grace; and a brother, Orville.
Visitation will be Thursday, April 2, 2009, from 5 - 7 PM, with a prayer service at 7 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.
Her funeral will be Friday, April 3, 2009, at 1 PM, in Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Fargo.
Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fargo.
