Omer N. Tweten, 89, of Moorhead, MN, died Thursday, June 15, 2017, in Perham Living, Perham, MN.
Omer Nels Tweten was born May 23, 1928, the son of Otto and Anna (Odemo) Tweten, in Brocket, ND. He graduated from Brocket High School. After high school, Omer served in the U.S. Marines. He returned home and began working at Northwestern Bell in Bismarck, ND, as a lineman.
On December 28, 1948, Omer was united in marriage to Mary Hencz, in Bismarck, where they first made their home. They later moved in Dickinson, ND. Omer and Mary lived in Camp Pendleton, CA, from 1952 - 1954, while Omer served his country with the US Marines, during the Korean Conflict.
In 1954, they moved to Fargo, ND. In 1955, they then moved back to Bismarck, where he worked as the Directory Sales Manager for Northwestern Bell. While in Bismarck, he, served as president as the Chamber of Commerce, on the Bismarck School Board, the Bismarck Junior College Board, the GNDA Board and was active in the Boy Scouts, serving as their finance chairman.
In 1966, they moved to Moorhead, where they raised their three kids. Omer continued his career with Northwestern Bell. In Moorhead, Omer was the youngest president of the Moorhead Chamber of Commerce. He was an avid coin collector, he loved to dance, and to mow his lawn. He always had a cottage either in the wilderness or on a lake.
His wife, Mary, died March 6, 2017. He was also preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Otis, Arnold, and David.
Omer is survived by his three children, Rodney (Paula) Tweten, Edmond, OK, Randy Tweten, Hawley, MN, and Mariann (Dan) Hokanson, Dent, MN; six grandchildren, Jessica (Tibby)Thibodeaux, Michael Tweten, Nathan Tweten, Joshua Tweten, Andrew Hokanson, and Ashley Hokanson; five great-grandchildren, Mackenzie and Rylen Thibodeaux, and Cole, Caleb and Finley Tweten; and a twin brother, Basil (Carol) Tweten.
Memorials are preferred to The Lutheran Church of Christ the King, Moorhead.
A memorial service for Omer will be held on Wednesday, June 21, 2017, at 2 PM in The Lutheran Church of Christ the King, Moorhead.
