Opal M. Gudmundson

Opal M. Gudmundson, 90, of Moorhead, MN, died surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, February 21, 2009, at Eventide Lutheran Home, in Moorhead.
Opal Mildred Lebakken was born September 9, 1918, to Olaf and Mary (Haugen) Lebakken in Milnor, ND. During her senior year, Opal worked as a night telephone operator. She graduated high school in 1937, in Forman, ND. While working as a waitress at the Portland Cafe in Casselton, ND, she met her favorite customer, Eddie.
On June 9, 1945, Opal married Edward A. Gudmundson in Philadelphia, PA. They moved to Bottineau, ND, where Eddie worked as a pharmacist and Opal gave birth to their first son, Curtis, in 1946.
Opal and Eddie moved to Abercrombie, ND, and then to Fargo in 1949 where Opal gave birth to their second son, Wayne.
In 1952, Opal and Eddie decided to buy their own home in Moorhead, MN. Eddie worked at and later co-owned Moorhead Drug Company. Opal and Eddie were charter members of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, where Opal taught Sunday School. Over the years, Opal worked for the Census Bureau, Moorhead Drug, The Opportunity School, and Flowers Unlimited.
Opal enjoyed camping, traveling, gardening, playing bridge, sewing, knitting Christmas stockings, making lefse, taking care of her grandchildren, and baking an endless supply of chocolate chip cookies and coffee cake. Opal loved to garden. She canned and
But the most important thing in Opal's life was to nurture and love what God had put in her care. She was a wonderful homemaker, loving wife, adoring mother and doting grandmother.
Opal is survived by her devoted husband, Eddie, Moorhead; two loving sons, Curtis (Pamela) Gudmundson, Plymouth, MN, and Wayne (Jane) Gudmundson, Moorhead; four grandchildren, Lisa (Vince) Gudmundson Vertin, Hayley (Michael) Gudmundson Ellis, Peter Gudmun
Opal was preceded in death by her mother and father, and brother, Marvin Lebakken.
Memorials may be sent to Eventide Lutheran Home or Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd.


Visitation: Tuesday, 4 PM to 6 PM, Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.


Funeral: Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2009 at 2 PM, in Lutheran Church
