Opal Mjoness Nelson, 90, Moorhead, MN, died Thursday, January 17, 2013, in Essentia Health, Fargo, ND.
Opal Ione Dawdy, the daughter of Charles and Agnes (Courtney) Dawdy, was born November 17, 1922, in Rodney, Iowa. She grew up and received her education in Iowa.
On December 20, 1941, Opal married Bernard Mjoness, in Dakota City, Nebraska. In 1943, the family moved to Fargo, ND. Ben died on July 30, 1969. Opal continued to live in Fargo, where she operated a daycare in her home.
On Feb. 27, 1971, Opal married Howard Nelson and they lived in Fargo. He also preceded her in death. In March of 2010, Opal became a resident of Eventide Lutheran Home, Moorhead, where she had lived since.
Opal will be remembered for her love of family and friends, her enjoyment of playing cards, and eating out.
Opal is survived by a daughter, Debra (Craig) Anderson, Dilworth, MN; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and many special nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her two husbands; her two sons, Dennis and Donald; four sisters; and seven brothers.
Visitation: Monday, 5 PM until 7 PM, with a prayer service at 7 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.
Funeral: Tuesday, January 22, 2013, at 10:30 AM, Pontoppidan Lutheran Church, Fargo.
