Ordella Elaine Heiraas Eastvold died on Monday, October 19, 2009, at her Glyndon, MN home, at the age of eighty-nine.
Ordella was born on January 18, 1920, in the home of her parents, Carl and Inga Heiraas on the family farm in Hagen Township, Clay Co. MN. There she grew up in a family of 9 children and attended "Golden Rod" Country School that she walked to, once becoming lost in a winter blizzard.
Ordella married Oscar Julius Eastvold on October 29, 1944, on her parent's farm. They began their life together on a farm 3 miles east of Borup, MN, where they lived and raised 4 sons. Their farm was sold in 1967 and they moved to Glyndon where for the first time in their lives they had indoor plumbing.
Ordella was employed at Glyndon Lutheran Church for many years cleaning and was actively involved in the Ladies Aid, Circle, etc. She also worked as a house maid in homes of various families in the Fargo-Moorhead area including the home of Richard Grosz Photography. She and Oscar were charter members of Maranatha Free Lutheran Church of Glyndon. She was an avid reader and enjoyed the challenge of crossword puzzles and was loathe to miss any Twins games on TV. In 2000, she was privileged to travel to Norway with her son, Gene, and his wife, Jenny, where she met and visited with some Bjerke relatives. Ordella will be remembered by her grandchildren for the beautiful quilts she made for each one of them.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar; her parents; brothers, Don and Aldus; and sisters, Irene Klevgaard, Ethel Anderson, Carmen Borgen and Alice Dahl.
Ordella is survived by her sons, Michael (Delores) Eastvold of Fergus Falls, MN, Steven (Barbra) Eastvold of Lake St. Louis, MO, Cary (Bonnie) Eastvold of Deer Park, WI, and Gene (Jenny) Eastvold of Gheen, MN; sisters, Marcy (Earl) Hillstead of Hitterdal,
Visitation will be on Thursday from 5 - 7 PM with a Prayer Service at 7 PM in Maranatha Free Lutheran Church, Glyndon.
The Funeral will be on Friday, October 23, 2009 at 10:30 AM in Maranatha Free Lutheran Church.
Burial will be at 2 PM on Friday in Jevanaker Lutheran Cemetery, Borup, MN.
