Orlin G. Halvorson

Orlin Gordon Halvorson, age 91, of Moorhead, MN, has gone home to the Lord, on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, Essentia Hospital, Fargo, ND. 

Orlin was born on March 3, 1933, in Hagen township rural Ulen, MN, the son of Martin and Christella (Hilde) Halvorson.   He was raised on the family farm attending country school and graduated from Borup School in 1952.    Orlin then served in the U.S. Army before returning home and settling in Moorhead.  

In 1954, Orlin was united in marriage to Evelyn Halstad in Halstad, MN.  They made their home in Moorhead where they raised their four children, DelRae, Terry, Cherie and Michelle.  Orlin started his career at Peavy Fertilizer Plant for two years before transitioning to Fairway Foods, where he spent 33 years as a forklift operator.  In addition to working for Fairway Foods, Orlin also worked for Hollands Landscape part time for many years, retiring in December of 1991.  In 1991, he was united in marriage to Nancy Mohagen in Moorhead where they made their home.   After retirement, Orlin dedicated another 17 years working part time at Christ the King Lutheran Church.

The true Norwegian, Orlin would never miss an opportunity to tell an Ole and Lena joke.   He loved to fish, play cards, and being around friends and family.  He enjoyed making people laugh and always made you feel welcome as you walked in the room.  

Orlin is survived by his loving wife, Nancy; three daughters, DelRae (Bill) Swanson, New Germany, MN, Cherie (Jim) Muller, Detroit Lakes, MN, and Michelle (Tim) Ingersoll, Kiowa, CO; stepchildren, Aaron Mohagen, Fargo, Chad Mohagen, Moorhead and Michelle Beito, Mandan, ND; grandchildren, Melissa (Jeremy), Jason (Sarah), Jordan, Davis, and Kasie (Jordan); step-grandson, Braelynn; and great-grandchildren, Peyton, Landon, Silas, Charlie, and  Marleigh.

Orlin was preceded in death by his son, Terry; his parents; and sisters, Muriel, and Arlene. 

A Visitation for Orlin will begin at 10:00 am, Monday, May 13, 2024, followed by his Funeral Service at 11:00 AM, in The Lutheran Church of Christ the King, Moorhead.

The burial will take place in Moorhead Memorial Gardens, Moorhead.
