Orville Andrew Kolstad was born November 28, 1918, in Bemidji, MN, to Ole and Marie (Ingdol) Kolstad. At the age of five, Orville moved with his family to Turtle River, MN, where he attended grade school. After graduating from Bemidji High School, Orville worked as a sign painter.
In November of 1941, Orville was drafted into the Army. He built airfields in England, North Africa, Sicily, and Italy. Orville was discharged in June of 1945, and went on to graduate from the Wahpeton State School of Science, Wahpeton, ND.
On September 8, 1946, Orville married Marion Sande in Bemidji. They made their home in Moorhead, MN, where he worked as an electronic technician and engineer at KFME (PBS) television. He later was an instructor of electronics at Moorhead Tech., retiring in 1974.
Orville died Tuesday, September 28, 2004, in his home, Moorhead, at the age of eighty-five.
Orville was a member of the VFW, West Fargo, ND, and the American Legion, Moorhead. He volunteered for Churches United, Moorhead, and was a driver for refugees for Lutheran Social Services. Orville was a talented photographer and ham radio operator. He loved to build things and was a perfectionist with everything that he made.
Orville is survived by his wife, Marion and a son Mark (Susan), all of Moorhead; and a sister, Marie Kolstad, Bemidji.
